What to Expect After Your Christmas Lights Are Installed 🎄
Your home is officially holiday-ready! Here’s what happens next and how to get the most out of your display this season.
✅ Final Walk-Through & Power Check
Before our crew leaves, we:
- Confirm all sections are lit and working properly
- Secure cords and connections safely
- Make sure your display matches the design we discussed
⏲️ How to Use Your Light Timer
We provide and install a photocell timer with your display so your lights turn on automatically — no daily switching needed.
🔄 Timer Settings Explained
Use the rotary dial on the front of the timer to select one of the following:
- OFF – Lights remain off at all times
- ON – Lights stay on continuously (not recommended long-term)
- DUSK TO DAWN – Lights turn on at sunset and off at sunrise
- 2 HRS – On at dusk, off after 2 hours
- 4 HRS – On at dusk, off after 4 hours
- 6 HRS – On at dusk, off after 6 hours
- 8 HRS – On at dusk, off after 8 hours
🌅 How the Photocell Works
The photocell on the timer senses daylight. When it gets dark in the evening, your lights come on. They turn off automatically based on the time setting you selected — no clocks, apps, Wi-Fi, or programming required.
⚠️ Helpful Timer Tips
- Make sure the photocell isn’t covered or facing a bright porch light
- If your lights don’t turn on as expected, first check:
- The outlet has power
- The timer isn’t set to OFF
- The timer dial hasn’t been bumped or changed
- A breaker or GFCI outlet hasn’t tripped
💡 General Light Use
- Your lights are designed to stay on throughout the season.
- You’re welcome to adjust the timer setting anytime.
- No need to unplug cords or manually flip switches each day.
🛠️ Maintenance & Service Calls
What’s Included (Free Season-Long Maintenance)
We include free maintenance throughout the season for issues related to normal use and weather, such as:
- Burned-out or failed bulbs
- Loose connections
- Sections affected by wind, rain, snow, or ice
- Lights that stop working under normal wear
If something goes out or just doesn’t look right, text or email us and we’ll take care of it.
What’s Not Included in Free Maintenance
The following are not covered under free maintenance and may result in a service charge:
- Lights or cords that are:
- Run over by vehicles or lawn equipment
- Cut or damaged by lawn maintenance, snow removal, or other third parties
- Damage caused by pets, children, or moving furniture/decor
- Requests to re-route cords or relocate lights after installation
Service Call Fees (When They Apply)
If we’re called out and the issue turns out to be something simple like:
- Lights unplugged
- Timer turned OFF or changed by the customer
- Power switch turned off
- GFCI or breaker tripped and not reset
a service call fee may apply for that visit.
✅ Before You Call Us (Quick Checklist)
If your lights aren’t on or something doesn’t look right, please take a quick look at these items first:
- The lights are plugged in securely
- The timer is not set to OFF
- The timer setting hasn’t been changed accidentally
- The outlet has power and the breaker hasn’t tripped
- Any GFCI outlet has been reset
- The photocell isn’t covered or facing a bright light source
✅ If everything checks out and the lights still aren’t working, reach out and we’ll take care of it.
Just a heads up: if we come out and the issue is something simple like an unplugged cord or the timer being turned off, a service call fee may apply.
❄️ Weather & Winter Conditions
Our installations are built to handle normal winter weather. After heavy wind, ice, or snow, we recommend:
- Take a quick look at your display from the ground
- If anything looks out of place, let us know and we’ll schedule a service visit
🏠 Do I Need to Be Home?
- You do not need to be home for maintenance visits.
- You do not need to be home for takedown at the end of the season.
- The only exception is if the power source is not accessible to our crew.
🎁 Takedown, Storage & Ownership
- LuminUp retains ownership of the lights, cords, and clips.
- At the end of the season, we:
- Remove all lights and clips
- Pack everything up
- Store your setup safely for next year
You don’t need to do a thing — we handle it all.

- Your design and setup details stay on file, making next season quick and easy to book.
